High Value Burglary Near Oswestry

Police investigating a high-value burglary at a country home near Oswestry, have appealed for public help in tracing the offenders.

They believe the house in the Pant area may have been under surveillance by the burglars before they broke in between 9.30am and 10.30am Monday (July 25).

A window was forced to gain entry and a large quantity of jewellery and cash were stolen.

Detective Constable Mal Normandin, the investigating officer, said: "It seems likely the property was being watched by the thieves prior to the breakin, waiting for the occupants to leave.

"This is an incident where the general public may well be able to assist the investigation. I am appealing for anyone who spotted anything suspicious in the Pant area last Monday, such as a parked car, to contact me at Oswestry police station on 0300 333 3000."

He is particularly anxious to trace the drivers of two vehicles seen near the property at the time.

"They may not be involved at all but it is important for us to eliminate them from the inquiry and I would ask the drivers to come forward.

"A red Mazda sports type car was seen making off at speed driven by a man and a white van containing two men was also seen close to the entrance of the burgled premises."

DC Normandin added information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.

Police Appeal Over Hanwood Arson

Police are investigating an arson attack on a joinery workshop near Shrewsbury which caused up to £400,000 damage.

They issued an appeal  for information following the fire at Niblett Bespoke Joinery based at Edgebold, near Hanwood.

The business shares the old dairy depot site with several other firms alongside the A488.

Police were alerted by the fire service that they were attending a serious fire in a commercial building thought to be of dubious origin.

Extensive damage was caused to the building, including the roof and machinery inside. Estimated damage is initially believed to be between £300,000 and £400,000.

It's thought a quantity of timber outside the premises was deliberately set alight. The fire then spread to the building.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "The fire is being treated as arson and we are appealing for any information which might assist the investigation.

"This is a fairly isolated location on the outskirts of the village of Hanwood but the site is situated alongside the main A488 Shrewsbury to Bishop's Castle road. We are anxious to hear from passers-by who spotted anything suspicious in that vicinity.

"The number to call is Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000, or the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111."

Police Measures Help Tackle Oswestry Anti-Social Behaviour Incidents

Oswestry's Local Policing officers had  a busy few days helping with measures designed to improve relations with young people and reduce anti-social behaviour.

The Oswestry Town West Local Policing Team was involved with the National Play Day event being staged at Gatacre. They also be attended a similar event in Cae Glas Park.

And on Sunday  local officers and community support officers staged a soccer tournament at the Oswestry Boys and Girls Club, Park Hall for boys and girls aged nine to 11.

The activities are part of the West Mercia Police "Respect" initiative being run throughout the school summer holidays. It promotes a range of measures the police and its partners have set up to reduce anti-social behaviour. Working with young people in the community has significantly reduced such behaviour in many parts of Shropshire.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness of the impact anti-social behaviour can have on others and encourages respect and tolerance.

One of the organisers, Community Support Officer Hannah Bishop, said the all-day tournament were held to provide positive entertainment for boys and girls during their summer holidays.

"It's part of our diversion approach to young people where we work with our partner agencies to provide things for them to do. This approach has been highly successful in the Oswestry area and others parts of Shropshire in significantly reducing anti-social behaviour.

"It is also an effective way for the police to build bridges with young people and brings benefits for the whole community."

For further information about the events - which has received fund-aid from the West Mercia Police Authority - CSO Bishop can be contacted at Oswestry police station on 0300 333 3000.

Avoid Trouble Plea Following Disorder Incidents In Craven Arms

A police officer has warned that anyone involved in any future disorder in Craven Arms is likely to face prosecution.

Sergeant Mike Dulson issued the warning following the successful prosecution of several local people involved in serious public order incidents earlier this year.

Several small groups of people were involved and a series of disorder incidents in the town resulted in individuals being assaulted and property being damaged.

Sergeant Dulson said: "This behaviour has caused real problems within the local community. There is no excuse for it and local residents should not have to tolerate it.

"The problems have been caused by a small minority of people, usually the same group of individuals, repeatedly involved."

He said the police had carried out various investigations resulting in several offenders being charged and put before the courts.

"I'd like to thank members of the local community who have come forward to assist the police and also to reassure the people of Craven Arms that the police will continue to press for the prosecution of troublemakers.

"I would urge those who have previously been involved in causing trouble to think twice before causing any further problems. My advice is steer clear of confrontation and keep out of trouble. It's just not worth it both on a personal level and because of the upset it causes to the town."

Earlier this month, an 18-year-old man was convicted by Telford magistrates on two public order offences and also two charges of possessing an offensive weapon. He was given a 12-month community order, including supervision, ordered to do 40 hours unpaid work and placed under a 12-month restraining order not to enter Craven Arms.

In a separate court case, another young man admitted a public order offence and was fined £175.

Sergeant Dulson added: "Craven Arms has suffered enough senseless acts of disorder. Hopefully, these will be reduced or cease altogether, but if there are repeat offences I am sure the community will work with the police to bring those responsible to book."

Family Tribute To Shropshire Musician

The sister of a Shropshire man who died after his motorcycle was involved in a road collision last week, has paid her brother a loving tribute.

Sandra Kemish also described 52-year-old David Kemish of Ditton Priors, near Bridgnorth, as a gifted musician. Mr David Kemish

Mr Kemish was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham last Tuesday afternoon when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Jeep in Station Road, Ditton Priors. He died the following day.

Ms Kemish said today: "David lived quietly in the village but packed a lot into his life with interests spanning from steam engines to boating.

"But his main love was music and he was a gifted player of many instruments, including the Slide Guitar to world-class level.

"David played in many bands during his life and was currently with Jonah and the 45s, playing rock and roll."

She said Mr Kemish had recently retired as a mechanical engineer to spend more time perfecting his music and pursuing his other hobbies.

"David is very sadly missed by his family and his partner," Ms Kemish added.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision and have renewed appeals for witnesses to call 0300 333 3000.

An inquest was opened in Ludlow today by the south Shropshire coroner Mr Anthony Sibcy and adjourned to a future date.

Police Seek Driver After Whitchurch Collision

Police are seeking the driver of a car which sped off after being involved in a collision at Whitchurch.

The car, a silver coloured old style Vauxhall Vectra, lost control on Heath Road, colliding with an oncoming vehicle

It failed to stop making off at speed. The driver of the other vehicle, a gold coloured Toyota Rav 4, was slightly injured when the airbag activated.

Police Constable Antony Jones, the investigating officer, said: "We are trying to trace the driver of the Vectra and any information which might assist can be forwarded to Whitchurch or Shrewsbury police stations on 0300 333 3000 or to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111."

He said the Vectra crossed onto the offside of Heath Road railway bridge at high speed and badly damaged the Toyota. It then drove off without stopping at high speed along the A49 towards Prees.

PC Jones added: "It's thought the Vectra has a spoiler and some sort of go-faster stripe on it."
